Ellie & Paul's wedding in East Lothian has to be up there as one of my all time favourite weddings. Never mind of just 2016! A beautiful church, castle grounds booked for bridal party photos and then down to stunning Archerfield for the reception and I haven't even mentioned Ellie and Paul yet. They were both just terrific and with wonderful families flying in from all over the world, including the USA and even Livingston!

I arrived at the Boathouse for bridal preparations and met Geoff from "Watch The Birdie" Videography for the first time. I knew within seconds we'd get along as he is such a nice guy. Can't believe we've never crossed paths before.

Then it was up to the lodges to meet Paul and his family for a few shots before heading off to St Mary's Church in Haddington. The ceremony was good fun and immediately afterwards the bridal party headed to Dirleton Castle for some photographs before meeting up with wedding guests back at Archerfield's Waterfront.

After the speeches we nipped out to the rock by the sea for some lovely sunset photos and finished the day in style with a jam packed dance floor.

Cheri & Craig's Wedding At The Ghillie Dhu

Cheri & Craig's wedding at The Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh was a truly international occasion. Guests from Cheri's home in Canada met with Craig's family from Scotland at one of Edinburgh's best wedding venues.

I met up with the girls at The Carlton Highland for bridal preparations, the head down to the Ghillie Dhu to meet Craig and the boys as they greeted family and friends arriving for the wedding. 

The Ghillie Dhu is simply stunning with the Auditorium one of the best ceremony rooms I've seen. The atmosphere is just perfect with low lighting from the over head chandeliers. Cheri looked stunning as she made her way down the aisle to meet Craig. After the ceremony the immediate family headed to Princes Street Gardens for some family shots. Then before and after dinner we had Edinburgh on our doorstep for some fantastic shots of Cheri and Craig featuring Edinburgh as a back drop. perfect to relive back home in Canada.

Rufflets Wedding - Cara & Neale

The perfect Scottish summer wedding at one of the countries premier venues. Cara & Neale's wedding day at Rufflets, near St Andrews was extra special on so many levels.

When I arrived at Rufflets the girls were getting ready upstairs with hair and make-up in full swing. It was a such a relaxed, fun atmosphere and looking out from the balcony, the sun was shining and I knew then, it was going to be a beautiful day.

Neale & the boys arrived in plenty of time so we got a few shots before the got themselves ready to greet all the wedding guests. The celebrant, Iain Whitelaw was actually Cara's father. I've worked with Iain several times before and it really was a privilege to be there capturing his daughter and future son-in-law's wedding day.

The sun was shining so it was Rufflets' first outdoor ceremony of the year and it was simply fantastic! Beautiful chair coverings, flowers and little hears hanging from the trees nearby were just a few of the lovely touches.

After the wedding ceremony it was a drinks reception in the sun where the happy couple had time to mingle and chat with family and friends. Once the group shots and bridals were all done it was speeches and dinner.

Finally it was time for the first dance and there party! The dance floor was full from the 2nd dance and was still packed when I left. What an amazing day!

Balbirnie House Wedding - Laura & Fraser

Laura & Fraser's Balbirnie House wedding was simply magical. The venue was stunning as usual but even more so with the recently decorated bridal suites. It was these luxurious surroundings where I met with Laura and the girls for the bridal prep.

Fraser and the boys were only one floor up so it was great to be able to get some shots of the guys getting ready for the big day. Or maybe that should be... trying to tie their cravats. Thank you YouTube!

Laura's father escorted the beautiful bride down to the Orangery for the ceremony which was wonderfully presided over by Sandy Geddes. After the confetti and family photographs we wandered around the grounds at Balbirnie for some nice shots with Laura & Fraser before dinner. Colin Moxey was doing a grand job capturing all the moments of the day on video and it was great to work with him.

Then all that was left was to party!! What a fantastic wedding at Balbirnie House. Congratulations to Laura and Fraser!

Rhona & Graham's E-Session At South Queensferry

I met up with Rhona, Graham and little Isla at Hawes Pier, South Queensferry last Sunday. We had rescheduled from a couple of weeks previous as that day the weather was terrible. Sunday was perfect though.

We picked out a lovely spot beyond Hawes Pier for some great shots with the Forth Bridge in the background. A great little place for future reference!

We took a stroll along to the harbour chatting about the plans for the big day next month. The big day will be here before we know it.

Glencorse House Wedding - Caroline & Owen

Caroline & Owen's Glencorse House wedding in the heart of Midlothian was a fantastic day. Bridal preparations were taking place at Caroline's mum's place in Edinburgh. It's a great time for bride and bridesmaid to chill and be pampered before the ceremony.

I arrived at Glencorse Kirk nice and early and was blown away! It's the first time I have shot a wedding at Glencorse and to have the consecrated kirk available for pretty much any kind of service you like is fantastic. Then you add in the beautiful stately home grounds and huge marquee and you have one amazing wedding venue.

The guests started to arrive then the boys made their entrance via golf buggy! It started to rain after a few minutes so everyone headed inside to await Caroline's arrival. The ceremony was conducted by Humanist celebrant Ken McMillan.

After the ceremony guests gathered by the main house for drinks and canapés while Caroline, Owen and I headed around the grounds in the golf buggy getting some gorgeous bride and groom shots. Everywhere you looked there was a photo opportunity.

After the speeches and dinner, the evening guests arrived as light was fading. the marquee now lit up like a beacon as more and more guests arrived, ready to dance the night away.

Edinburgh Castle Wedding - Rebecca & Calum

Rebecca & Calum's Edinburgh Castle Wedding at Christmas. The 3:30pm ceremony time meant we would be shooting in the dark for most of the afternoon and this actually was so much fun! Edinburgh at Christmas time is full of bright lights and decorations which proved a wonderful backdrop in which to get some lovely night wedding photographs.

Justine & Andy's Dalkeith Palace wedding is right up there as one of my favourite weddings and at a stunning location too. The Buccleuch Estate, locally know as Dalkeith Country Park it's a vast area of natural beauty with Dalkeith Palace as a stunning jewel in it's crown.

The ceremony took place at St Mary Scottish Episcopal Church just inside the gate of the estate. It was also great to catch up with Rev Peter Harris again. He always conducts a lovely but fun ceremony for the happy couples and is also the school chaplain at the special needs school my son attends.

I headed to The Scotsman Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh to meet up with Andy and the guys. They were getting ready in one of the suites in this converted newspaper HQ. There was great banter with the guys as they all seemed nice and relaxed as they prepared to head out to Dalkeith.

I then headed to Justine's parent's house just outside Edinburgh for the bridal prep photos. The girls were all very excited about the wedding which made for great fun and relaxed photographs. Justine looked stunning in her dress as the girls fussed around making sure every detail was absolutely perfect. Finally....it was time to head to the church.

After The ceremony, Justine and Andy were met with a London Red Bus and a full pipe band lead by Pipe Major Andrew. They marched the short distance to Dalkeith Palace a little further into the estate where drinks and canopies were served. Even though it was May, it was kind of chilly too. The guests were fantastic though as they waited patiently for their turn at the family photos. We flew through them nice and quickly so that everyone could get back to enjoying the drinks and chatting with family.

After the speeches we nipped back out for a few more photographs then head back for the cake cut and the first dances. I couldn't resist staying on a little longer as some of the dance moves were awesome. The guests really got into the Ceilidh in a big way and there was not a floorboard to be seen on the dance floor. Everyone was up dancing and having a blast at one of this years best weddings!

Houston House Hotel Wedding - Laura & Donald

It was a beautiful September day for Laura and Donald's wedding at St James' The Less Church with reception at The Houston House Hotel. It was at the hotel where the day would start with the bridal preparation photos. Laura was one of our make-over shoot competition winners with hair and make-up by CityBrides Hair & Make-Up. It was great to catch up with Helen and Emma MUA again, they always do an amazing job.

The morning flew by with family popping in and out of the bridal suite to give Laura the best of luck for the day ahead. The bridesmaids were brilliant all day and Laura had very thoughtfully given all the bridemaids and flowergirl gifts as a thank you. A lovely touch.

I then headed of to James The Less Church in Penicuik to meet Donald and the guys as they greeted all the guests on arrival. It's a beautiful little church tucked away on the far side of Penicuik. Massive thank you to the minister who was very accommodating and understanding when it came to getting photographs in the church. Laura arrived in a vintage Beaufort car and she looked just stunning! We paused for a few shots at the front door of the church before heading inside for the wedding ceremony. I love setting up the confetti photos at any wedding but at James the Less Church there is a lovely long path which is tailor-made for a confetti run. It was great fun and the newlyweds expressions of joy made it all worthwhile.

It was then back to the wedding reception venue where Giovani was waiting with two glasses of champagne for Laura & Donald. As the guests were a few minutes behind us we took a walk around the beautiful gardens for the bride and groom portraits. Everywhere you look there's a photo opportunity at the Houston.

After the family photos it was time for the speeches and then time for me to say goodbye. Perfect wedding? Oh, you bet!

Dalmahoy Wedding - Morven & Andrew

Morven & Andrew's Dalmahoy Wedding was one of my favourite weddings of the year. It was great to catch up with some familiar faces and really was a privilage to be asked to shoot another family wedding. Morven and Andrew were married at Carrickknowe Church then headed off to the stunning Dalmahoy Golf & Country Club.

Dalmahoy Country Club Wedding: Laura & Graham

Laura and Graham's wedding photography story begins in Luss by Loch Lomond. Almost 12 months to the day before their wedding at Dalmahoy we met outside the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for their engagement shoot. It was also my wife's birthday so asking Donna to join us and booking in for a lovely meal at the Loch lomond Arms seemed a great plan. I spent an hour walking around beautiful Luss with Laura & Graham taking pictures by the banks of Loch Lomond then met up with Donna who'd at at least a two glass of wine head start on me. Gorgeous meal though! Fast forward a year to the big day at Dalmahoy and it was perfect! Spring had sprung and even though the leaves hadn't yet made an appearance, it was relativley mild with some great light for shooting wedding pictures. Laura was getting ready over in the west so I met up with Graham and the boys at St Mary's Church, just inside the grounds of Dalmahoy, for a few photos before the rest of the wedding guests arrived.

The day was really memorable for me because after the ceremony and the family group shots the light was just stunning. The sun was peeking through the storm clouds giving a really dramatic look to the shots down by the loch. Some of my fave shots of the year so far!

Finally, some of you guys had some wicked moves on that dancefloor! That's all I'm saying.

Carberry Tower Wedding: Lana & Keith

I first met Lana and Keith at their engagement shoot at Newbattle Abbey College grounds back in March. I knew on that shoot that their Carberry Tower wedding was going to be a day to remember. Unusually for Scotland it was a lovely spring day and with the specatcaular grounds around the main house we couldn't really go wrong. The boys had gathered in the small bar known as the Boar Room as guests were arriving by taxi and car. Lana was pretty much ready apart from slipping into her beautiful wedding dress. With around twenty minutes before the ceremony I headed up to get a few shots of Lana in that gorgeous dress but before I got the chance, I saw those awesome bridal flowers. Wow!! Simply breathtaking. The longest train of flowers I've ever seen and they really complimented the dress and Lana's look perfectly.

After the ceremony, all the guests were outside enjoying drinks before the family group photos which seemed to fly by. The steps in the rose garden at the rear of Carberry serve as the perfect spot for the formals. Then it was off around the grounds with Lana & Keith for the bride and groom shots.

All that was left was to enjoy the rest of the day, with speeches, wedding breakfast and the evening reception. A perfect end to a perfect day.

Lauren & Robert's E-Session at Inveresk

I met up with Lauren & Robert at Musselburgh Harbour for their e-session shoot but the wind wasn't playing ball so we headed off to Lewisvale park over at Inveresk to try and get a bit more shelter from the blustery breezes.We wandered around the park grabbing a few shots in the shade under the trees as well as shooting back into the sun for a different look. Both Lauren and Robert were brilliant, smiling, laughing and having a great time. Love the E-sessions!!

Sarah & David's E-Session In Leith

I met up with Sarah & David on a windy Sunday afternoon down at The Shore in Edinburgh. We started off with a few shots on the old Swing Bridge, the iconic feature of this part of town. It was pretty windy so we decided to head for some of the back streets before heading to Leith Linkks for the final few shots. The big day is at the George Hotel in June this year.

Ceri & Martin's Dalmahoy Wedding

Ceri & Martin's wedding at Dalmahoy was a fantastic, fun but laid back day with wonderful friends and family. The vibe was very much relaxed and informal. I headed up to the room to meet with Ceri for a few getting ready shots before heading back downstairs to catch the arrival of Martin and the rest of the groomsmen. By now all the guests were starting to arrive and head through to the cocktail bar to enjoy drinks before the ceremony.

The ceremony was lovely, personal with little Isla on hand to give mum and dad a little encouragement during the ceremony. It was lovely to see such a close family occasion with little isla invloved every step of the way. Even helping Ceri and Martin sign the register.

The rest of the day I was just a guest at the wedding with a couple of big cameras to be honest. Everyone was chatting away, having a drink and made me feel so welcome. After the group shots we had some time together for the bride and groom portraits by the main building and on the beautiful feature balcony on the top floor.

Ceri, Martin and Isla, thank you all so much for having me along to your special day. It really was perfect!

Gemma & Paul's Wedding At Howies In Edinburgh

What a wedding! Gemma & Paul's fantastic wedding at Howies in Edinburgh. Gemma was getting ready in The Balmoral Hotel with the bridesmaids. We started with a few simple shots of make-up etc and well as some lovely gifts being exchanged. I then headed down to see if I could catch Paul in the bar before he headed up to Howies. I grabbed some more shots as Paul chatted with friends in The Balmoral Bar.

Once the boys headed off to Howies I met with Gemma back upstairs where she was finished getting ready and looked absolutely stunning! I just had to get some shots in the long Balmoral corridors and the staircase with the stained glass window.

It was great to meet up with old friends, Neil and Anne, back in the room. Neil was such a proud Dad on the day and had come to pick up Gemma in her original Fiat 500 to whisk her up Waterloo Place to Howies.

Howies had done a tremendous job with the decor inside. It’s a beautiful place at the best of times but they had the restaurant looking just amazing! After the ceremony I took some candid shots has bride and groom mixed and chatted with the guests. Gemma and Paul had access to a secret garden on Calton Hill where we photographed the family formals as well as taking some time to get some lovely portraits of Gemma and Paul.

After the speeches and the meal I could see we were going to be in for a pretty amazing sunset. I thought I’d ask Gemma & Paul if they’d like to head back up the hill to get some amazing cityscapes with them both. I barely got the words out when Gemma said. “Let’s go!."

It was so worth it. Some of my favourite shots of the year. Amazing Bride and Groom, Edinburgh as your canvas and a setting sun! It really doesn’t get any better than this!

The Balmoral Hotel is the most iconic building in Edinburgh and a very popular venue for weddings. Carys and Craig were actually tying the knot at Lothian Chambers over on George IV Bridge before heading back to the Balmoral for the wedding breakfast and the reception. We started at The Balmoral for the bridal prep shots where Freda Howden had just started Carys' make-up. Family were coming and going, the weather was great, not just for December up here but just in general. The sun was shining...I was going to be a perfect day.

Then it was off the Lothian Chambers in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town for the wedding ceremony. It's a stunning building with ornate marble pillars and beautiful wood features. The guests gathered in anticipation for Cary's arrival as Craig shared a joke with Andy at the top of the room. Carys looked just stunning as her and her father walked down the aisle.

After the ceremony it was outside for the group shots which we had pre-arranged so we could get through them nice and quickly. It was getting a little colder now so I didn't want the guests hanging around too much. Once the family shots were done we wandered the High Street to get some nice portraits of Carys and Craig before heading back to The Balmoral where we were greeted by Toastmaster Bob and The Balmoral's fantastic (Award Winning) wedding planner Elizabeth Lorimer. As always the staff at The Balmoral were wonderful and we were offered the chance to head up to the roof of the building for a few more shots of Carys & Craig. Toastmaster Bob led the way to the roof and kept us entertained in the chilling wind up there. Toastmaster Bob was fantastic and a highly recommended addition to any wedding to add a little bit of gravitas and fun to your special day.

After dinner we had the speeches followed by the dancing in to the night. What a fantastic day and it really doesn't get any better! Loved every minute!

Carberry Tower Wedding Photography - Alison & Neil

Just five minutes up the road for Alison & Neil's Wedding at Carberry Tower. The last time I was there the stunning marquee out out the lawns wasn't there before but what a fantastic addition it is. Carberry Tower pretty much has everything you could wish for on your wedding day. When I arrived, Neil and the boys were enjoying a drink in the snooker room and chatting with friends and family. We did some shots of the guys on the long driveway leading up to the hotel and thankfully, even though we were in the midsts of December, it wasn't actually that cold at all. I then headed up to Alison's room to get some shots of her with Mum, Dad and Sis. She looked stunning and her dress was equally beautiful. A few shots in the room and then it was show time.

The staff at the Hotel were terrific and were chatting at interacting with the guests as they made their way to the ceremony room. It may have been winter but it was a lovely chilled laid back atmosphere. After the ceremony it was time for the family shots which we whizzed through. I always chat about group shots before the big day and just had the guests needed for the shots on hand. That meant with light fading fast we could get some great shots of Alison & Neil, in and around the grounds.

Finally it was off to the new marquee, which looked amazing,for speeches, dinner and a fantastic party! Even some Old Skool thrown in there which kept me entertained as I grabbed some shots of the dancing guests. Finally as Neil is a Physics teacher, I just wanted to ask what he has for his dinner at night. Fission Chips apparently! No? Oh alright then.

The Vu Wedding Photography - Danielle & Gary

The Vu has to be central Scotland's most popular venue. They are so popular in fact that there is pretty much a wedding on at The Vu every day of the week and it's easy to see why. It's built with one purpose in mind....weddings! After a few getting ready shots with Danielle and the girls, I headed off to The Vu to meet with Gary and the boys. Hearts were playing Hibs that day and this could have presented a major problem as Gary is a huge Hearts fan. So you may ask, was he late? Not a chance! He met the guys for a drink in a nearby pub to watch the first half which took them neatly to the scheduled arrival time at the venue. Nicely done Gary.

Another fun filled wedding day with no one taking themselves too seriously at all. laughs all the way which I hope you can see from the pictures. Also, huge kudos goes to Danielle's dad who wore the Hearts tartan on the day. He's a huge Hibs fan so to wear your big rivals tartan for your daughters big day is the stuff off legends. Imagine your Celtic mate wearing a Rangers tartan or your Manchester Utd fan best mate wearing a Man City strip for pics with the players? It just doesn't happen but it did that day. Awesome stuff.

It was blowing a gale all day so we did a lot of the family shots inside but thankfully it calmed down a little after the meal so we could head back outside for some great shots with the Waterlilly as a backdrop.

Glenbervie House Hotel Wedding Photography - Angela & Joe

Angela and Joe's Glenbervie House Hotel Wedding must be a contender for the most fun wedding of the year. It was also nice to be able to go to a wedding where there are guests there who's weddings I had photographed in the past. Thank you all for the referrals guys, you know who you all are. We started at Angela's parents house for hair and make up. Lucinda was busy in the kitchen working her magic with make-up and my good friend Helen Woodland from City Brides was making sure all the girl's hairstyling was perfect. Amazing Job as always.

It started to chuck it down with rain as we were leaving to head over to Glenbervie where Angela and the girls would finish getting ready. I headed up to Joe's room to capture the boys in the final throws of getting ready. The tone for the rest of the day was set in that room. I knew it was going to be a brilliant wedding once I saw the selfies, the jokes and the hilarity. Just brilliant.

The wedding ceremony itself was so laid back and fun. Angela and Joe got a selfie with the guests all cheering in the background... it looked awesome.

The rest of the day was just fun photographs as the guests chatted and mingled but as it was still raining outside we did the group shots in the drawing room but managed to take the key family and bridal party shots again outside after the meal when the rain had stopped. Only took a few minutes but was well worth it.

I've got to know Angela, Joe and all their friends over the last few years and really mean this when I say, Thank you! Not just to Angela and Joe but to everyone else who was there to make this the best, fun wedding of the year!
