I met up with The Pettigrew's last Sunday for a nice early Spring family shoot but the rain came belting down after only about twenty minutes. It was a great laugh though and Natalie, Sandy and Alfie were definitely up for it as you can see from the rain soaked final shot. Defintely going to do another shoot, maybe in April when the weather is a little less wild.

Louise & Andrew's E-Session In Edinburgh
I met up with Louise & Andrew for their E-Session hoping for gorgeous shots with views over Edinburgh. Sadly as is often the case this year, it was howling with wind up on Calton Hill. We decided to head down into Edinburgh's Old Town for photographs instead as this would give us more shelter from the gales. Really glad we did as Louise and Andrew were brilliant wether we were in front of big grafitti garage doors or the Royal Mile.

Justine & Andy's Engagement Shoot at Calton Hill
Calton Hill is easily the most popular choice for e-session photography. Amazing views of Edinburgh as well as Arthur's Seat over the other side. We started the day with Justine's makeover shoot with Helen at CityBrides. Justine looked stunning and thankfully the wind up on Calton Hill was pretty calm. While we were up there we watched a couple from Singapore actually get married on the hill with a dove release and even a drone camera flying around. It was amazing! Looking forward to the wedding now. Not long now guys!

Emma & William's Engagement Shoot
Now and again I like to set off on my travels for a shoot so I jumped in the car and headed down to Garlieston all the way down in Dumfries & Galloway for Emma & William's E-Session. I was really looking forward to getting a look at the setting for the wedding as this was a bespoke setup at the family holiday home by the coast. It's going to look stunning come the summer. Here's a handful of the shots from the shoot but keep an eye out for some awesome pictures this summer. This setting is stunning!

Balmoral Hotel Wedding Photography & Lothian Chambers - Carys & Craig
The Balmoral Hotel is the most iconic building in Edinburgh and a very popular venue for weddings. Carys and Craig were actually tying the knot at Lothian Chambers over on George IV Bridge before heading back to the Balmoral for the wedding breakfast and the reception. We started at The Balmoral for the bridal prep shots where Freda Howden had just started Carys' make-up. Family were coming and going, the weather was great, not just for December up here but just in general. The sun was shining...I was going to be a perfect day.
Then it was off the Lothian Chambers in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town for the wedding ceremony. It's a stunning building with ornate marble pillars and beautiful wood features. The guests gathered in anticipation for Cary's arrival as Craig shared a joke with Andy at the top of the room. Carys looked just stunning as her and her father walked down the aisle.
After the ceremony it was outside for the group shots which we had pre-arranged so we could get through them nice and quickly. It was getting a little colder now so I didn't want the guests hanging around too much. Once the family shots were done we wandered the High Street to get some nice portraits of Carys and Craig before heading back to The Balmoral where we were greeted by Toastmaster Bob and The Balmoral's fantastic (Award Winning) wedding planner Elizabeth Lorimer. As always the staff at The Balmoral were wonderful and we were offered the chance to head up to the roof of the building for a few more shots of Carys & Craig. Toastmaster Bob led the way to the roof and kept us entertained in the chilling wind up there. Toastmaster Bob was fantastic and a highly recommended addition to any wedding to add a little bit of gravitas and fun to your special day.
After dinner we had the speeches followed by the dancing in to the night. What a fantastic day and it really doesn't get any better! Loved every minute!

Carberry Tower Wedding Photography - Alison & Neil
Just five minutes up the road for Alison & Neil's Wedding at Carberry Tower. The last time I was there the stunning marquee out out the lawns wasn't there before but what a fantastic addition it is. Carberry Tower pretty much has everything you could wish for on your wedding day. When I arrived, Neil and the boys were enjoying a drink in the snooker room and chatting with friends and family. We did some shots of the guys on the long driveway leading up to the hotel and thankfully, even though we were in the midsts of December, it wasn't actually that cold at all. I then headed up to Alison's room to get some shots of her with Mum, Dad and Sis. She looked stunning and her dress was equally beautiful. A few shots in the room and then it was show time.
The staff at the Hotel were terrific and were chatting at interacting with the guests as they made their way to the ceremony room. It may have been winter but it was a lovely chilled laid back atmosphere. After the ceremony it was time for the family shots which we whizzed through. I always chat about group shots before the big day and just had the guests needed for the shots on hand. That meant with light fading fast we could get some great shots of Alison & Neil, in and around the grounds.
Finally it was off to the new marquee, which looked amazing, for speeches, dinner and a fantastic party! Even some Old Skool thrown in there which kept me entertained as I grabbed some shots of the dancing guests. Finally as Neil is a Physics teacher, I just wanted to ask what he has for his dinner at night. Fission Chips apparently! No? Oh alright then.

The Vu Wedding Photography - Danielle & Gary
The Vu has to be central Scotland's most popular venue. They are so popular in fact that there is pretty much a wedding on at The Vu every day of the week and it's easy to see why. It's built with one purpose in mind....weddings! After a few getting ready shots with Danielle and the girls, I headed off to The Vu to meet with Gary and the boys. Hearts were playing Hibs that day and this could have presented a major problem as Gary is a huge Hearts fan. So you may ask, was he late? Not a chance! He met the guys for a drink in a nearby pub to watch the first half which took them neatly to the scheduled arrival time at the venue. Nicely done Gary.
Another fun filled wedding day with no one taking themselves too seriously at all. laughs all the way which I hope you can see from the pictures. Also, huge kudos goes to Danielle's dad who wore the Hearts tartan on the day. He's a huge Hibs fan so to wear your big rivals tartan for your daughters big day is the stuff off legends. Imagine your Celtic mate wearing a Rangers tartan or your Manchester Utd fan best mate wearing a Man City strip for pics with the players? It just doesn't happen but it did that day. Awesome stuff.
It was blowing a gale all day so we did a lot of the family shots inside but thankfully it calmed down a little after the meal so we could head back outside for some great shots with the Waterlilly as a backdrop.
Thank you both very much for choosing me for your Vu wedding photography!

Glenbervie House Hotel Wedding Photography - Angela & Joe
Angela and Joe's Glenbervie House Hotel Wedding must be a contender for the most fun wedding of the year. It was also nice to be able to go to a wedding where there are guests there who's weddings I had photographed in the past. Thank you all for the referrals guys, you know who you all are. We started at Angela's parents house for hair and make up. Lucinda was busy in the kitchen working her magic with make-up and my good friend Helen Woodland from City Brides was making sure all the girl's hairstyling was perfect. Amazing Job as always.
It started to chuck it down with rain as we were leaving to head over to Glenbervie where Angela and the girls would finish getting ready. I headed up to Joe's room to capture the boys in the final throws of getting ready. The tone for the rest of the day was set in that room. I knew it was going to be a brilliant wedding once I saw the selfies, the jokes and the hilarity. Just brilliant.
The wedding ceremony itself was so laid back and fun. Angela and Joe got a selfie with the guests all cheering in the background... it looked awesome.
The rest of the day was just fun photographs as the guests chatted and mingled but as it was still raining outside we did the group shots in the drawing room but managed to take the key family and bridal party shots again outside after the meal when the rain had stopped. Only took a few minutes but was well worth it.
I've got to know Angela, Joe and all their friends over the last few years and really mean this when I say, Thank you! Not just to Angela and Joe but to everyone else who was there to make this the best, fun wedding of the year!

Ghillie Dhu Wedding Photography - Billie & Daniel
Another first for me this year. Billie & Daniel had chosen the Ghillie Dhu in the heart of Edinburgh's West End for their wedding and what a stunning venue it is too. The interior really is something special with those awesome chandeliers in the ceremony/reception room. I met up with the boys as they greeted the guests on arrival before Billie and her dad pulled up in their vintage wedding car. Billie looked beautiful in her dress and her dad looked so proud as he walked her down the aisle. The family shots were taken by the Ross Fountain in Princes Street Gardens followed by bride and groom shots. The speeches were brilliant. All from the heart and some great laughs in there too.

Eskmills Wedding Reception - Nicolle & Kyle
Nicolle & Kyle were married at the amazing Wynn Resort in LAS VEGAS!! The real party back home though at their Eskmills wedding reception. After all the guests arrived we watched the ceremony on the big screen and it looked incredible. The wedding was so beautifully done and having most of their family over there must have been so special too.
After the big screening it was straight into the music and every one had a ball. Eskmills is a fantastic venue for a wedding reception. it has a huge dance floor while still having areas to lounge on big comfy sofas as well as all the tables the guests sit at during the wedding breakfasts etc. Chris and the team always put on a great show every time I'm there.
If you are getting married in East Lothian, Eskmills should be on your shortlist even as the reception venue if you are planning a church wedding.
Nicolle, Kyle and their friends were brilliant all night. Photos opportunities everywhere and everyone seemed to just want to party. It was also great to catch up with a few familiar faces from other weddings I have photographed over the years. It's always great to see everyone and it's just brilliant to know that most of the work I receive now is via friend recommendations. Genuine thanks to those who have passed on my details, it means a lot.
Thanks again guys...awesome night.

Murthly Castle Wedding Photography - Jennifer & James
This was a very special wedding. Jennifer & James had arranged the perfect wedding at probably the best venue I have ever shot at. Murthly castle is just out of this world! The drive to the castle once you turn in from the main road must be around a half a mile at least but then you turn the corner to see this stunning house set in a beautiful walled garden. That's not all though. Beyond the house itself is a pine-tree lined drive to Murthly's own private church. Everywhere you looked there was a photograph just begging to be taken.
The girls were getting ready in the room when James and his family were arriving. Getting the button holes pinned to the lapels properly is never an easy task but thankfully Mum was a dab hand and had the boys all kitted out in no time at all. The guests arrived and made their way down the drive leading to the church to meet James and have a peek inside the beautifully decorated church interior. The Jennifer's brother Daniel arrived and was very keen to show the piper his skills and really looked the part with his very own Glengarry.
Peter knocked on Jennifer's door to escort her to the church and give her away to James. It was an emotional when Peter saw his beautiful daughter in her wedding dress and I don't think there was a dry eye in that room for those few seconds. Yours truly included.
After the ceremony the guests enjoyed drinks and canopies back at the castle then on the lawns and then nipped back to the castle then back out the lawns.... Ok, let me explain. It was like someone had a rain button and was pressing it every time we set foot outside. It didn't matter of course as with such a gorgeous venue we could photograph the families in the drawing room. Luckily, after the meal the rain was gone and it turned into a beautiful evening so we grabbed a few duplicate shots of the family photos we did inside then went for a wander around the stunning gardens with Jennifer and James.
A very special day indeed on so many levels. Jennifer & James... I can't thank you enough for inviting me to your wedding. It was very emotional and we know why but it is a day I'll never forget and am so glad I was a part of. Looking forward to seeing you and your family soon after the new year for a catch up.
All the very best

Wedding Photography At The Hub - Abby & Colin
Abby & Colin's wedding at The Hub was definitely one of those, "I don't feel like I'm actually working today" deals. It's a gorgeous building inside and out with Edinburgh's old town right outside the front door. Factor in a beautiful bride a handsome groom, fantastic family and friends and you really can't go wrong. Epic, is how I'd describe it. I met Abby and the girls down at Ju-Pa hairdressing in Leith for all the bridal prep shots before heading along to Colin's parents for a few shots of Colin getting ready for the big day. Then Luke (The videographer) and I headed back to meet Abby and the girls for shots of the shoes, dresses etc.
I love to photograph the guests as they arrive at the venue. All those smiles, laughs and tears really make the story of the day come alive. Abby looked stunning as she emerged from the white taxi at the door of The Hub. We grabbed a few shots before going inside for the wedding ceremony.
Abby and Colin were terrific all day and I can't thank them enough for asking me to be part of their big day. They smiled, laughed and enjoyed every minute of the day which made my job so easy. The ceremony was lovely but there was some laughter too and it all added up to the perfect wedding. We grabbed a few shots of Abby & Colin after the main family shots but it's important that the bride and groom mingle and enjoy the company of their family and friends on their wedding day. I always say, it's your wedding day, not a photoshoot. Summer or Autumn weddings are great in that respect as you can take some more shots after the meal if needed to break things up a little and that's exactly what we did.
The light was fading fast however so I called in a friend of mine who drives a black cab in the city. He was waiting at the door for us so we could get down the Princess Street Gardens and back up to the Royal Mile to get all the shots we wanted before we lost the light. We made it in the nick of time but it was so worth it.
Thank you again Abby and Colin, it was a privilege to be there.

New Lanark Wedding Photography - Lorna & Calum
Lorna & Calum's New Lanark Wedding day flew by so quickly, no one even realised it was raining! Thankfully when we got to the rooftop terrace the drizzle stopped and we got some great photographs with it's stunning backdrop of lush green pine trees. It was a delight to photograph Lorna and Calum as they are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet, they really are and it was a pleasure to be a part of their big day. While Lorna was getting ready in her cottage, Calum and the guys were right next door doing up their cravats and splashing on some aftershave when I arrived. Lorna looked stunning as she made her way to the wedding car which was a surprise from her dad. It was only a short walk to the Music Room so Lorna wasn't expecting a car... It was a lovely touch.
The Rev Jim Liddle conducted the service with his usual good humour and gusto but he also had a few tender words for Lorna and Calum after they had said their vows. After the rooftop photos the happy couple enjoyed their wedding breakfast before dancing the night away...eventually (A wee in-joke there).

Glenskirlie Castle Wedding Photography - Sharon & Gordon
Sharon & Gordon's wedding at Glenskirlie took place on a beautiful autumn day in October. Glenskirlie house It's a lovely venue set right next to the castle with a lovely sheltered garden in the back, perfect for family photos. I met up with Gordon at the venue as he greeted guests as they arrived at Glenskirlie. Sharon arrived in a Rolls Royce with her dad and looked incredible as she posed for a couple of pics with the bridal party and the hotel entrance. The ceremony was a lovely, relaxed and laid back with a few laughs along the way. The day seemed to be flying by as we headed to the garden for family photos before heading to the castle for the bride and groom photos. Glenskirlie, awesome wedding venue with an equally awesome couple.

The Vu Wedding Photography - Gail & Craig
Back to The Vu for Gail and Craig's wedding this time and what a fantastic day it was. This was the first wedding I'd ever photographed where my wife has been there. Donna (my wife) is best fiends with Wendy (Gail's Aunt) so it was a little surreal to be working away with my wife looking on. Donna is the one in the blue dress and black hat. Looking gorgeous of course. (She might read this, lol) I started with a visit to Gail's mums house for the bridal prep photos before heading off to The Vu to meet Craig and the guys. It was pretty windy up there on the day with occasional downpours but the guys were up for heading outside for a few shots by the Oasis Suite as it was a little more sheltered there.
Gail arrived with her Alan, her father, and looked stunning in her Justin Alexander dress supplied by Gwenne Wedding Services as she emerged from the car. There were a few tears during the lovely ceremony, I won't say who but it was just brilliant to see such emotion and how much it meant to both the bride and the groom.
The group shots were done indoors as I had already got everyone soaked out on the bridge for the big photo of everyone. It was just bad luck with the timing for that one but for the shots of Gail and Craig on the jetty our luck seemed to have turned. The sun came out, albeit for about 2 minutes but it was better than rain. You can see from the photos that in those few minutes, there's every season in the shots.
A brilliant day as usual up there at The Vu and it was a real pleasure to be a part of it.

Claire & Steven's Wedding At Eskmills
Claire & Steven were married at Our Lady Of Loretto Church in Mussulburgh before heading to the brilliant Eskmills to start the party! I met with Claire at her mum's house for the bridal prep photographs where I bumped into Stacey Mitchell who was there to do Claire and the bridesamaids make up. Then it was off to church to meet up with the boys before the ceremony. They were certainly up for a good laugh and I knew this was going to be a really fun day. The boys were great and their banter was top drawer. Once we got to Eskmills it was time for the speeches and the wedding breakfast.
Everyone was having a ball and the time seem to flying as the first dance fast approached. The party kicked off pretty much immediatly with some awesome dancefloor shenningans and slick moves.

The George Hotel Wedding Photography - Emma & Ryan
It was back to one of Edinburgh's premier wedding venues for Emma and Ryan's wedding at The George Hotel. One of those days that time just flies by. I met up with the girls in Musselburgh for all the bridal prep photos before heading across town to meet up with the boys who very kindly gave me a lift in the taxi into The George. Happy days as this meant I didn't need to worry about parking as I'll often park out of town for city centre weddings and jump in a cab anyway.
The boys were there to greet all the family and friends as they arrived at the hotel and even had time for a swift pint (of water!?) before the ceremony. Emma arrived with the bridesmaids looking absolutely stunning!
After the ceremony we headed down to Queen Street Gardens for the family photographs. This is a must do option for weddings at the George as the gardens are perfect for not only family group shots but for some great bride and groom portraits. After the meal, I took Emma and Ryan down onto the iconic Princess Street for some more early evening photos with Edinburgh doing it's usual awesome best as a backdrop.
Finally it was back to The George for a few more shots from the Panorama Suite. If you have your wedding booked there, it's a must have. Simply breathtaking!

Easterbrook Hall Wedding Photography - Fiona & Andrew
It was my first wedding over at Easterbrook in Dumfries. It’s the university grounds and a spectacular wedding venue that really should’t be overlooked if you are over in the west of the country. There’s a hotel, a stunning church which allows any faith or non-faith ceremonies and the magnificent Easterbrook Hall for your reception. It was a gorgeous summer day in Dumfries for Fiona and Andrew’s wedding. I had spend a day with Fiona and Andrew on an extra special engagement shoot a few weeks earlier, revisiting the proposal spot as well as a few other places they had spent time together. They are both really great. We got on so well and I knew this wedding would be a little bit special.
The families on the day were fantastic too, despite me constantly getting Andrew’s dad’s name wrong. Oops!
Everyone was so chilled and relaxed on the day. It was perfect from start to finish. The couple, the weather, the location and the guests all made this one of my my fave weddings of the year!
A special mention must go to the Band, Corra. They were amazing! best band I've heard at a wedding so far....Superb!
Thank you guys, I really mean that!

Brig O'Doon Wedding Photography - Sophie & Jared
I was honoured to be asked to photograph Sophie & Jared's wedding after a recommendation by Cheryl & Paul, whose wedding I photographed back in 2010. 2014 has been one of the best Summers ever in Scotland and the big yellow fellow was shining down on us with not a cloud in the sky. The wedding took place in a marquee in the grounds of Dunure Castle. A spectacular backdrop!
Sophie and jared are big Sci-Fi fans and It took me all my powers of composure not to burst out laughing with the rest of the guests when the, Empire Strikes Back theme blasted through the speakers when Sophie made her entrance. It was that kind of day. Big smiles all round, especially me.
After the ceremony we did some group shots in and around Dunure Castle before heading back to the mini bus that was waiting to take the guests to Brig O' Doon. Well, that was the plan anyway. There were two buses booked and waiting while the ceremony went on. One for the main group of guests and one to wait while the families had photos taken. They both took the guests and left us stranded, with no phone signal and a 10 mile away reception to get too. Not to be outdone, I crammed er... 5 (might have been more) into my car and the the owners of the site helped out with another couple of cars to pack us all in and get us to the reception venue.
We made it!
The reception was a fantastic too. The clouds rolled over for great light and I thought this day just couldn't get any better. Then it did just that. The party was awesome. Everyone packed the dance-floor as DJ Stephen Graham played some awesome tunes and mixes to keep the party going.

Eskmills Wedding Photography Laura & Alan
It was a very, very windy April day in East Lothian for Laura and Alan's wedding at Musselburgh Congretional Church and Eskmills Functions Suites. So windy in fact that Laura's vale blew clean off her head as she arrived with her dad for the ceremony. What was really brilliant about this wedding was the seeing familier faces, previous clients who's weddings I have photographed over the last year or two. It was like being a guest at the wedding with a couple of big cameras, thank you so much for making me feel so welcome guys.
Laura and Alan love VW campervans and Beetles... As you can tell from the shots below. Laura arrived in an all white VW Beetle, roof down with the wind blowing as it was, that was a very brave move. A few remained out in the street and gave her a big cheer as she stood up to give everyone a big wave.
After the ceremony, laura and Alan heading back to Eskmills Function Suite where GH Event Catering had done a fantastic job of the suite. It looked amazing!
Once I got to know a few of the guests it turns out many of them were completely bonkers, in a good way though. It was just brilliant! Great fun photos were to be had everywhere and the dancefloor was packed from the very beginning.
